Baby won’t drink his bottle since weaning

Hi All

My son under paediatrician direction, due to severe acid reflux, we started weaning him only a few weeks earlier than normal.

However, since he has been introduced to vegetables, fruit and baby porridge etc he really doesn’t want even a morning or evening bottle.

HV and paediatrician are not too concerned yet but his milk is about 15 oz if I include everything used to mix his purées with.

I was told he needs a minimum of 20-24 oz to sustain him, not seeing the paediatrician until May now so any tips? HV said if he is gaining weight, it’s not an issue…

If you were breast feeding you wouldn't know how much milk he was getting. Is he getting cheese and yoghurt as they are a dairy substitute. If he's gaining weight he will be fine.

What age is he?

ComebackQueen · 05/04/2022 14:54

@Musicaltheatremum yes, I sometimes wish I wasn’t FF as I’m obsessed with numbers or ounces tbh 😆

@dementedpixie he is 6 months 3 days.

We early weaned under medical guidance too.

It's normal for them to start dropping milk feeds as they eat more solids. Because we started my son at 4 months with solids, he'd dropped a milk feed by 6 months.

Offer cheese and dairy as well as the formula bottles. He might also want smaller bottles now as well.

@Twizbe thank you, yes I’ve just started to introduce protein & dairy so I’ll make sure I offer more cheese and yogurt.

I’ll keep offering him 3 oz every three hours and hopefully he takes them.

He seems to be enjoying food, I don’t have to fight him. He is due another weigh in the Thursday before good Friday so if he is gaining weight, I’ll not stress too much.
