BLW - 8 Months

Hi!

Looking for some reassurance! My son is 8 months and has been eating solids for the last 6 weeks or so. He refuses to be fed by spoon unless he can do it herself so we've gone the BLW route. He's excellent at picking food up and putting it in his mouth and tries everything. He'll suck on meat etc and he will eat purées of a spoon if he's putting the spoon in his own mouth BUT he doesn't seem to be swallowing much at all and still spits a lot back at. For example, he'll suck the flesh off a sweet potato, keep it in his mouth to suck at and then at the last minute spits it back out.

Should I be doing anything to encourage swallowing or will he crack this with a bit of time?

Totally normal. He's probably still getting used to chewing/swallowing/gagging etc. The fact that he's picking up food, putting it in his mouth and appreciating the flavour is great. I personally found 8 months old a massive turning point where my son mastered the pincer grip, put plenty of food in his mouth and started eating a lot. Sounds like you're doing great.
