I used to mash cod or salmon into potato

katiebirdie · 02/01/2008 21:16

I started ds with lemon sole, just steamed very gently, is delicate and very mild flavour. He still likes it now (17mths)

horsemadgal · 02/01/2008 21:16

Lemon Sole or Whiting here as no bones (or very very soft ones if you do manage to find any).

anchovies · 02/01/2008 21:16

cod loin, no bones at all

Pannacotta · 02/01/2008 21:17

According to this list, no fish until 9-10 months

Dont think 6 month olds really need fish, is lots of protein in milk....

SenoraParsnip · 02/01/2008 21:17

not tuna - deep sea fish have traces of heavy metals (which is why they say to restrict intake in pregnancy). they do also say to introduce chicken first for some reason (salt? I don't know), but I don't think there'd be anything wrong with a tiny bit of salmon or white fish.

onepieceoflollipop · 02/01/2008 21:18

We tried trout fillets but it can still be boney so you will need to be extra vigilant. Since having our dd1 we have eaten more fish ourselves.

WigWamBam · 02/01/2008 21:23

When I was weaning dd, the recommendation was no meat or fish until nine months. I don't know if that's changed now but six months seems really early for thinking about meat.

lionbeast · 02/01/2008 21:28

really i was going to give dd some chicken tomorrow

dd 6m has had chicken and turkey in the last week and loved both. Have I done something realy bad. Was also considering mushing a bit of anchovy on her toast tomorrow. I'm a bad mum aren't I?

LynetteScavo · 02/01/2008 21:34

In the old days cod, but now we shouldn't eat cod as it's over fished, so an alternative such as hake or haddock, may be.Not tuna, and I'd introduce trout/salmon next.

Bramshott · 02/01/2008 21:34

I thought fish and meat was okay from 6 months-ish? Both mine have had it then. I've always used any sort of white fish - cod, haddock, plaice, coley etc.

Elfsmummy · 02/01/2008 21:34

I gave cod, salmon, plaice and chicken from 6 months onwards. (started at 6 months and quickly progressed) but don't have a clue what the official guidelines state.

I do know that shell fish is older (18months off the top of my head)

meep · 02/01/2008 21:35

I saw the post title and thought "goldfish"
!

Pannacotta · 02/01/2008 21:53

Think anchovy is prob a bit too salty for a 6 month old.

louii · 02/01/2008 21:54

Lemon sole always goes down well in my house.

talktothebees · 02/01/2008 21:59

you're right pannnacotta but we've been given a huge tub of anchovies and am trying to get rid.

I'm going to try lemon sole though
