Is this too much food?

My son is a week shy of 7 months, started on solids when he was about 5.5mos and he loved it straight away. He seems to eat a lot compared to some other babies his age we know, I’ve read that you can feed until they have had enough but that’s only happened a few times with him! Mostly I portion something out and he will eat all of it. Factoring in bits he plays with/throws around he is actually eating about 80% of what is served.

He is also having 3/4 formula feeds of up to 150ml a day but he will normally have about 120ml and stop. Can anyone please advise if this sounds normal amount of food for his age ?

Morning: 130ml formula followed by crumpet with peanut butter and 4-5 mandarin segments

Lunch: 120ml formula followed by a pepper omelette with a bit of feta cheese on top - approx 1/2 size of a muffin. With a couple of spoonfuls of Ella’s kitchen mushroom stroganoff.

Afternoon: 120ml formula

Dinner: 120ml formula and red pepper and lentil soup, serving size approx 4 tbsp

Other meals have included one whole weetabix with cows milk and 1/2 banana…2-3 mini falafels served with 3 spoonfuls spinach and feta dip… 4 tbsp beef mince and veg blended.

Just seems a lot of food to me but hoping it’s normal! Many thanks for your advice

I think 4 tbsp beef mince is actually an overestimation, and is probably more like 2

Are you feeding lo? Or lo feeding themselves?

Sounds about right to me, my little girl is 7 months next week and will have similar portion sizes and also has some snacks twice during the day to encourage her to eat on her own. I don’t give the food immediately after the milk feed, usually leave 1-2hrs in between. She’s always had a big appetite compared to other babies and so I’m not worried at all that she’s eating too much. Babies are pretty good at telling you when they’ve had enough so I wouldn’t compare with other los simply because no two are alikeWink
If you want some reassurance your HV should be able to advise youSmile xx

For a guide our daily menu looks like:
6oz bottle at 7ish
Porridge or rusks with banana/apple at 9ish
10am nap
11am 5oz bottle (might not have it all)
12:30-1pm lunch-this is usually vegetable puree with bits of vegan cheese. We don’t do BLW a lot as she chokes on lumpy bits still and we’ve got CMPA so dairy free food only
1-3pm (if lucky) big nap
3pm 5oz bottle
5pm oaty yoghurt with some fruit
7:30 bed time routine and bottle of 5oz

I am starting introducing meet and fish this week along with eggs so hopefully no allergy there. Snacks are usually mainly in the afternoon and when I feel she might want some Wink

Sounds lovely. Can I come for tea?
