Hi I have just started weaning my 6mnth old baby boy who has suffered from terrible reflux from birth. I badly need some ideas of food cobos that I can him to help reduce this. He sicks up so much and is in pain. Even bannana which I thought was non acidic seems to make him very sick. He is still on madication which doesn't help much. Please help!!

aw, what a shame. i did BLW with my daughter and is becoming quite popular so you might have read about it on here even. however, according to something that the mum of a reflux baby wrote on my site, things need to be tweaked and lumps (she found, at any rate) made her child's pain worse. what she wrote is here and there's a wee bit aobut reflux here.

it sounds like a process of trial and error, i'm sorry to hear that you have to watch your wee boy suffering, it must be hard. fingers crossed he'll just grow out of it one day soon.

Thank you for the advice. It's very hard seeing him in pain all the time. I'm willing to try anything at this point.

are there any reflux-specific websites that might help?

How old is he?

We had to stop weaning with dd and wait till she was a little bit older. Might not be right for everyone but she was so sick (reflux), it actually worked better just waiting.

i'm so sure you'll have seen this site already but just in case you haven't...

oh I see you have said 6 months, doh!

I would stop for a bit if it's making him more sick and try again in a few weeks time.

Hi
Just wanted to let you know I have a ds 7 months that is the same! I'm having a real struggle weaning him and it's so upsetting at times to see him in pain, not to mention the sick.. Anyway - I'm looking for any tips that may hel - so if you find anything, let me know. Sometimes it helps knowing you are not on your own!!

He is no worse on solids than when he was just on milk. However,I have been experimenting and have actually found that if I give him his milk first followed by his solids which I make quite thick, but very smooth in texture it seems to help. I also stay away from any ingredients that are even mildly acidic. I have also discovered that making the meals myself works so much better than the ready made stuff as you can completely control what goes in and how thick you make it. I have found that adding stodge like sweet potatoe and rice seems to work well as it adds weight. Nice to hear I am not alone. I thought that by magic his reflux would stop as soon as he went on solids. By the way BLW doesn't seem to work as he just chucks the food everywhere and does not get to eat enough.
