10 month old - milk!

Hi, I'm hoping for some advice about weaning my 10 month old.

He was EBF for the first 6 months, then we started solids and he is now eating well.

His diet is currently as follows:

7am - BF
11:45am - lunch (vegetable puree with some pasta/rice/chicken/fish), bread, yoghurt, fruit (banana and/or clementine)
4pm - 150ml expressed breastmilk, teething biscuit
7pm - dinner (pretty much the same as lunch)
8pm - BF

So he has three milk feeds and two solid meals per day.

I want to start TTC no.2 at the end of March and so far I haven't had my first postpartum period yet. I'd really like to continue breastfeeding whilst TTC/pregnant but obviously that won't work if my periods don't return until I have completely stopped.

If I stop expressing for the afternoon feed so I am only feeding twice every 24 hours, do I need to replace with formula or would whole cow's milk or a(nother) full fat yoghurt be an appropriate substitute?

Any ideas about how to get my period to come back without stopping completely?

Any other comments about his diet?

Thank you.

No advice about diet but DD is nearly 11 months, 3 meals a day plus 1 tiny snack and still has 4/5 breastfeeds a day and my period came back around about 3 weeks ago.

I think it may be individual for everyone, I know some who's period took a few months after stopping Bf completely and some came back a few months after birth despite EBF.

I am still BF but my periods returned at 6ms post partum Sad
I am also surprised though by how little milk this is. My BF 11m old still has 5 feeds a day plus 3 meals. They still need around a pint of milk at that age.

I think he is probably still getting a pint of milk between his three feeds, although of course it's difficult to know for sure with breastfeeding.

At this age he can have 2 feeds a day. He is in control of the amount of milk he takes at each feed. That means if you offer 2 feeds he will adjust what he takes to account for that.

You can easily drop that bottle and expressing. I'd add in breakfast though and move lunch back to around 12.

Oh and both of mine were on 3 meals, 2 snacks and just 2 breastfeeds by this age.

I'm one of the unlucky ones as my period came back at 6 and 10 weeks

I’d be inclined to move towards 3 meals a day. My 7mo schedule is as follows (times approx)
7am BF
9am breakfast (offer BF after), today was toast and some banana
1230 lunch, today was egg mayo sandwich (he eats about half a pitta) but I tend to vary sandwich fillings and some pear (offer BF afterwards)
3pm BF
515pm tea, last night was tuna pasta bake with peas. I don’t purée it for him but I add extra puréed veg to the sauce. He ate 2 bowls last night (about 4 heaped tablespoons). Tonight he’s having curry and rice. All homemade and low in salt.
630pm BF before bedtime at 7.

I was told cows milk as a drink after 12mo and the BF support group I was chatting to suggested offering formula in a sippy cup (DS prefers an open cup) as a drink (I’m going away in a couple of months so won’t be able to BF).

@Twizbe thanks for your suggestions. I hope our schedule helps OP but it always good to hear from others.

Hi everyone, sorry for the late reply but thanks so much for all your suggestions.

I think I might start moving to a bottle feed rather than a breastfeed first thing in the morning so we can move breakfast from bed to the kitchen, and then see how he gets on with a solid breakfast.
