Hi mummys

My baby is 6 months and 2 weeks. I started feeding her when she was about 5.5 months with purée. Im still using purée and a little solids. She doesn't seem to be interested in either. It's a massive challenge just to get a few baby spoons of food into her and when I try with finger foods she hardly eats it at all. She will play with it which I know is normal, she will put it in her mouth and nibble bits of it. Im more concerned about her not being interested in eating in general. When I'm trying to feed her, she's either looking down or to one side and she doesn't seem interested in looking at the person with the food.
Im aware that at this age "food is for fun" and getting used to textures and moving her gag reflex backwards so she can eat properly. I see so many babies who love their food and eat so much even at a young age. Im just worried she won't want to eat.
Tell me this is going to get better please 🙏 🙏🙏🙏

It will get better! She is still only so small and you have so much time ahead of you.

The best thing to remember is that she is still getting all of her nutritional needs met from breastmilk/formula, food will not be replacing this yet so try not to focus on consumption.

Instead, try to focus on the skills she is learning - chewing/moving food around her mouth/spitting/gagging etc, building up jaw strength and creating a mental map of her mouth. Offer resistive foods to help with all of these, think mango pits, ribs, chicken drumsticks (with the pin bone removed) and corn on the cob.

Playing with it is great, it shows she is engaging. How is she when you leave food on the tray vs trying to feed her? Is she more likely to pick it up?
