Solids before milk?

I know the general rule is to give baby milk before solids, however it seems to have worked out better in our routine to give 7mo DS solids first.. I've tried to give him milk when he first wakes up in the morning but he will only drink a couple ounces, though he'll happily eat some weetabix or porridge then have his bottle an hour or so later before his nap.. then the rest of the day tends to go the same way. Is it really that bad to offer him milk after solids? I should point out that we offer him a varied diet and he does eat quite a lot, purées and BLW. He still drinks at least 20 ounces a day (600ml) and we give him a dream feed.

Our routine usually looks like this but we're not strict with it:

08:00 breakfast
9:00-9:30 milk then nap

11:30 lunch with us
12:15-12:30 milk then nap

3:30-4:00 milk then nap

5:30-6 dinner with us

7:00 milk then bed

Dream feed at 10:30 and sometimes a small feed during the night.

I don't know whether to change this or to just stick with it? I know we should steer away from feeding to sleep but that just seems to be when he wants it and it makes him sleep better anyway. I just don't want to make a rod for my own back really. Any advice? Smile

It's fine, you can feed your baby however you like. There isn't a rule.

@busyeatingbiscuits I know Blush thank you.. I'm just worried as I can't find much online about it so I'm just wondering if it's that much of a big deal to do things the other way around or if it'll cause issues going forward. I'm making sure he's still drinking enough milk so haven't felt the need to reduce the solids.. I wouldn't want to as he enjoys his food so much!

So long as he's having at least 500ml of milk a day then you're doing fine.

@busyeatingbiscuits thank you for the reassurance. Smile

My lo has been like this. She's 11 months old.
I do similar. Usually, milk is within 20 minutes of her meal now. But used to do it just before her nap.
