What age did you mums introduce your baby to solids?

Also, what did you give them first?

Some products say 4+ months but HV says 6 months so wanted to get some other opinions/advice 🥰

A bit over 6 months, all the current advice in the U.K. is from 6 months. Look on the NHS site for plenty of guidance.

I started with puréed veg which she hated so I switched to chunks of salad stuff, bits of bread to gnaw on etc and she liked that much more.

It's more when your baby is ready than what the marketers tell you! There are three key signs to look out for

  1. can your baby sit unsupported and hold their head steady
  2. does your baby bring objects to their mouth
  3. is your baby interested when you are eating

These factors tend to come together at around 6 months. My DS started at 5 and 3/4 months

We started by offering large resistive pieces of food - mango pits/ribs with a lot of the meat cut off/chicken drumsticks - early on so he could start to create a mental map of his mouth

I did one at 4 months along time ago in the advice of the HV abs Doctor and one at 6 months.

6 months was way easier, they just picked up the food and ate it.

There's no benefit for the baby to starting any earlier and you'll just be adding in a whole lot of extra work for yourself.

I'd wait until LO is showing the signs of being ready.

6 months. There are some medical reasons why babies may need to start earlier, but generally speaking most babies are not ready until closer to 6/7 months. Frankly the companies that produce baby food are not interested in the health of your child. If you do a bit of Google research theirs tons of articles about why it's better to wait

I weaned one at 6 months. The other two from around 4-5 months on medical advice due to their elder sibling’s serious allergies (I also introduced younger two to allergens early for that reason)
