I dont go to clinic often but thought id better take my DD as its been about 8 weeks since we last went. She asked how things were with the feeding (I weaned her early at 19 weeks as she was still hungry after milk and she was staring the food out of our mouths!) The clinic said it was fine to do this as she is a big baby. Today I said she was still on one meal a day at lunch and the HV said she should be having at least 2 a breakfast and a lunch at this age. I thought I was doing right not to push her as its recommended to not give them anything other than milk until 6months!! She also said her weight was a bit high as its almost on the 91st centile but her height is on the 99th centile and almost off the charts. Confused confused! Why do I keep being told different things

I stay away from the HV for this exact reason! Go with your instincts and what your baby needs. My dd was on 1 meal at this age and only went to 2 at 6 months. She is now 10 months and is on three (if you can call them that!) As long as your baby is getting enough milk then that is the most important thing at this stage.

Your HV is talking rubbish. Your are right not to push your dd, let her guide you and she will let you know how much she wants to eat (and indeed if she wants to eat at all)

help my baby feeds every 2 hours started to give her baby rice and she's still not satisfied

So according to your HV, your DD is simultaneously not eating enough and overweight ? I'd be tempted to go back just to beat her about the head with a copy of Catch 22.

If it reassures you any, my dd is nearly 25 weeks and is on 99.8th percentile for weight but off the chart for height. A paediatrician has told me she's perfectly in proportion so your HV is talking a big steaming pile of poo on that score at least. I've no idea about the food though as DD has only just started on the BLW and so is eating next to nothing except for her milk. I don't know what difference it makes that you've been weaning for longer.

BeeWiseMen · 13/12/2007 15:36

kyca are you bf or ff? Although I think the basic message is the same - if they're hungry, offer them more milk.

Ive been told before that the height and weight should be on roughly the same centile and its better that the height is higher than the weight. She also said that a 6 month old should have about 20 ounces of milk a day but the formula tin says a 6 month old should have approx 4x 8 ounce bottles a day? Thats a big difference if i gave DD that amount she would go mad!! And I was told when i stopped BF to give her as much formula as she wanted!
