Hi everyone,

I just wanted some reassurence please 😁 , I have a few questions hope that OK.

My LO great at weaning. We do blw and purees.

She eats everything given to her.... There is a but here.

For breakfast she has to have porridge. I have tried everything else. But she just wants her porridge. Nothing else will do and its a battle. Is it OK to do this? Made with cows milk. Toast doesn't do it for her either and she loves her toast.

Fruit purees. I have tried hiding it in stuff (won't even have in her porridge and will have one bit of porridge and refuses rest 🤦🏼‍♀️) I have tried tinned, fresh, every single fruit. She just won't have it. I always offer, even though she won't have. Tried letting her play with it, spoon, and even sucking from pouch. It's a simple no from her. May get 2 mouthfuls but that's it. I have even popped some on a bread stick or like an apple puree on cheese as that works well - she will chew the cheese and spit the puree out 🤦🏼‍♀️ is this OK to just stop giving and give every so often? FYI loves her veg I can give her any veg and will eat it. Always taking cauliflower, brocoli etc of my plate. Will eat veg puree too.

Yoghurts - I have tried every single kind I can find she will not eat yoghurts, sometimes she will eat a Ella yoghurt, or a frube (don't shoot me) but that's it. OK to go with flow? Worried about the calcium intake tbh.

Cheese - how much can I give a day? She loves it I mean if she isn't in mood for anything she will always have cheese. Im sure if I gave her a block she would eat it.

I think that's it 😂 Thanks everyone 😁🤗

Porridge. It's absolutely fine to give her this every day abs it's fine to make it with full fat cows milk as well.

Fruit. I'd just give her another if fruit as a finger food so maybe give her the porridge with banana or berries on the tray to ignore or smush into her hair. Just keep offering fruit as a finger food if she's not into it puréed.

Yoghurts she absolutely doesn't have to eat yoghurt if she's not keen abs it's best to avoid the really sweet ones anyway. There are so many other sources of calcium out there.

If she likes cheese that much I'd try to limit it to once a day.

Sounds like you're both enjoying this new phase Smile

Thank you 🤗

I will keep trying with all the fruits! She just isn't that keen on it 😂 like her mum and dad. We don't eat much fruit, but will eat it with her 😂

Yep she totally loves it!

It sounds like you’re doing everything right. Just keep offering the different options but don’t sweat it when she’s not interested. Porridge is a great breakfast and cheese is good also. Lots of iron and calcium there.

Fancyties · 02/11/2021 19:28

Thank you. I was worried about the cheese and thought it might be a bit salty 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi just to say that my 7 month old is exactly the same about fruit, and yogurt actually. I keep trying but it does get frustrating. Hopefully it’s just a phase.

Fancyties · 12/11/2021 18:25

Odd how they seem to already have their taste buds there already isn't it?

The fruit I have managed to sneak some in porridge now. I think she's hungry so just eats it 😂 I only do a third of a little pouch but it something. I give breakfast before bottle and always finished her bottle off too so not a big issue.

Yoghurt is a no go with my lo still. But I do give a frozen frube every so often and she only has about a third of it if that but loves it 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ I know a lot of people won't agree with it. But little now and again will be fine x

I wonder if it’s the texture? Purée and yogurt?
Anyways, I really wouldnt worry, just keep trying different various varieties!

Fancyties · 12/11/2021 19:02

Could be texture - me and her dad don't like Yoghurt or fruit really so may be something in that too 🤷🏼‍♀️who knows though I tried her on muller light Yoghurt once and she lapped that up. Obviously I won't give that one again 😂 x

You could try peeling/slicing then freezing some bananas, they become exponentially sweeter once they've been frozen. Then defrost/ mash it up really well in the same pan you are making her porridge in. It will be invisible but delicious.

Fancyties · 12/11/2021 19:36

Could I do that with apple instead? I find banana when I gave to her when much younger as used to like it it made her constipated a bit x x

That’s interesting - which fruit pouch did you use in the porridge? I’ve tried various ones from Ella’s Kitchen and the Cow & Gate apple & pear pots, as well as making my own. I’ve made banana purée, apricot, pear, apple, raspberry and she hasn’t liked any of those! With yoghurt I have tried plain Greek and plain natural yoghurts and she didn’t like either. Tried fruit with them and of course didn’t like that. I did once give her some of an Ella’s fruit yoghurt and she had a couple of spoons of that. I’m not judging the Frubes at all - I was thinking about Petit Filous!

Fancyties · 12/11/2021 20:01

I have used a variety. Mainly Ella and aldi. Tbh I haven't put Ella's one in yet wish me luck 🤞 for tomorrow morning when I do it. I don't put enough in so she can taste it too much. About a third, and so far only done pear apple and prune.

Wow go you for making all that. I don't bother with blending stuff down anymore she only let's me spoon feed her for porridge and I should be thankful for that 😂

Yep I done that. I did little pot things and natural Yoghurt everything, and one taste test - she sticks her tongue out what I'm giving her to make sure I'm not poising her then opens mouth wide once she realises what it is and she's happy with it 😂 Yoghurt she screams at me and will not open up 😂

Oh yes we did try the Ella Yoghurt - that lasted about 2 times and now refuses 😂

Hahaha you can judge for the frube I don't mind 🤷🏼‍♀️ if she doesn't have it often then I have to chose my battles. She doesn't have any crisps or much else sugar except a lower sugar rusk/biscuit thing at times. She's had one taste at milky bar thing and ONE pom bear. I seen my friends and what they give their babies I think I'm pretty resemble tbh.

Unfortunately it's just bananas that magically get sweeter when frozen. but you could bake apples in the oven which makes them taste sweeter. Just peel, slice half and decore. I bake a load at once, mash and freeze in icecube trays. Also do it with plums, pears, apricots, peaches, nectarines. They need to be ripe. I do it on a sheet of foil or you end up with a sticky mess. Bananas need to be very ripe or they constipate everyone!

Thank you x
