Baby spits out everything, whether it's baby led weaning or purées.

Hello, I am hoping to hear some success stories regarding weaning.

My baby was "diagnosed" with failure to thrive as he dropped from the the 50th to the 4th percentile. He never took to the boob, I exclusively expressed for 3 months, then went on to formula but weight gain has been slow. I thought: yay weaning will be great and my mum actually made a joke (kindly meant) before I started, so he doesn't like to drink his milk and you think he'll love his food? She laughed. Apparently I was the same, never drank much milk and didn't eat much (I'm still skinny, 7.5 stone but don't try to lose weight but I love food and I really enjoy cooking) BUT ....

He doesn't eat anything, he spits everything out and I've now tried a variety of everything, purées and baby led weaning (my first was 100% weaned by baby led weaning and he's a great eater.

DS2 is only 6 months so it's still early but did anyone here have a child that was hard to wean but then liked their food eventually?

Feeding has been stressful from day dot, I have Second who was ebf for 14 months and everything was just so easy, I never worried about him not eating or drinking enough.

Apart from that, he's the happiest chappy, sleeps really well, smiles for everyone, strong on his tummy, close to sitting up, grabbing and reaching for toys etc so there is no other concerns.

If he's only 6 months I presume you've only just started, it is normal. DD probably didn't eat until closer to 9 months old, she's now 4 and is a really good eater.

My second didn’t like food either. Was 7.5 months before they ate anything. Would spit out yoghurt, baby rice etc and then one day ate an entire bowl of pasta! Just keep trying every day or so.

@mummyh2016 thanks to the reassurance. I'll give him time.

@CokeZeroAddiction thank you - sounds good! Yes, that's what I will be doing, I'll keep trying very day, that's all I can do.

My baby was born very big and even he didn't eat well for months after weaning. He only started eating properly at about 9 months.

Only 6 months is very early - they are just getting used to food.

Solids at this age aren’t necessarily for the calories, it’s about learning to eat.

The tongue thrust reflex is to protect babies from choking so it may be that your baby isn’t quite ready for solids yet.
