Gagging

DD2 will be 7 months old on the 18th of this month, started BLW last week as waiting for her to get over a nasty case of HF&M.

She's doing really well but oh my god the gagging. She had toast this morning, gums off massive chunks and then proper gags, I can see the food right near the back of her mouth and i proper worry that's its gone too far back to gag up and she's going to choke, she does manage it but them few seconds are gut wrenching.

How long after you started BLW did the gagging get a bit less.

I know gagging is good and all part of them learning but it just looks so scary

Mine just never did it, I know that's probably not much help but she will probably get the idea soon Smile

Hopefully, you wouldn't think she was my 2nd DC! 😬

I spoon-fed DD1 purees but I can be faffed with all that this time around!

I wax the same! Luckily DC2 must have sensed the vibe and refused anything with a spoon anyway. She wanted what we were having and wouldn't be dissuaded Smile

Same! Weaning first started when she lunged at my lemon drizzle cake! 🤣

The girl's got taste! I might have been known to do a lunge if there's lemon drizzle cake involved Grin

7 months is still so small! Mine was a champion gagger until 18-20 months. The most problematic foods were flat, sharp or stringy things like lettuce leaves, apple peel, long noodle strands, chewy bacon etc. I just avoided those until she was 2+. It took 3 months before she stopped gagging with basic foods (toast, biscuits, vegetables, meat) and a whole year with the harder texture above.
