Lo is 18 weeks and by this stage I had started DS on solids but since then the advice has changed.

So, baby led weaning. Has anybody tried it? Did it work? Can I start with babyrice now and leave the rest till DD is ready?

Just asking cos she has already grabbed a ham sandwich off my plate!

Did BLW at 6 months and it was fab. If you don't think she needs solid foods, and I think in most cases extra milk is the best thing for a hungry baby, then I'd hold off with the faff of weaning, babyrice or otherwise until later. Mine would have grabbed a glass of wine/flaming torch off me at that age - I think it's just a grabbing thing at that age...

No, no need to start with baby rice.. if you wait until around 26 weeks, when your baby is more likely to be pysically ready for weaning, then you can go the BLW route Aitch;s blog and forum on BLW

at this age, babies are interested in eveerything and will grab at most things, not just food

also, growth spurts are common around now, and milk, milk and more milk is far more satisfying , nutritious and calorific than baby rice or a bit of pureed fruit.

BLW is the business. I started DS very slowly at 5 and half months (there isn't a need to start sooner and loads of babies are ready later). It's been great.

Personally, I'd avoid the babyrice as I think it's good to just completely leave them to it (while you keep a close eye, obviously) but lots of people do joint self-feeding and puree/babyrice method successfully.

Thanks everyone for replying. I really want to give BLW a go but since she was 4 months she hasn't been sleeping as well. This has tempted me to start weaning but really glad I haven't after your posts.

Don't know why I was tempted to wean because of sleep though, with DS I was really pressured to wean at 16 weeks as he never slept and he is 3 and a half now, eats lots and still doesn't sleep!

Thanks again and I may be posting about BLW again nearer the time
