SMA Follow On Milk - Please help?

Baby is almost 7 months, I've been giving her a bit of food and she swallows a few mouthfuls at mealtimes. She is also on formula and still wants this as well as the small couple of meals a day I've been giving her.

I've got an SMA PRO 2 6+ month weaning milk now. It says they only have around 600ml a day of it?

Should I be leaving her on the 1 milk until she is eating more or will the 2 fill her up more inbetween the feeds?

I dont have a health visitor - covid

Some advice would be great, please :)

I have always left mine on first milk until they are a year old then transitioned on to cows milk (foster mum so had a fair few babies now), the HV has always been in agreement with this.

She will be having her bottles still for some times. Mine didn't drop one till 9 months and then it was a stretch for another to be dropped.
You are fine to keep her on the first milk, they don't need the follow on milks etc.

What is the difference between the first milk and the follow on?
Thanks so much. I've been feeling a bit abandoned without a HV! She only turned up once Hmm

Nothing!
They are only allowed to advertise follow on milk so a lot of people think you need it but really you don't.
Really that's terrible, I would be ringing asking for someone to come out if I needed help/advise!

My health visitor has said to keep my son on first milk until he's a year old and then he goes on full fat cow milk. The follow on milk etc is a marketing ploy to get to keep buying is what she said to me

Im a midwife...definitely just stay on the first milk. As @Cocomade says, stage 2 and 3 milk only exist as they aren't allowed to advertise stage 1 milk. In having this they are still able to get their name out there. Usually there is a slightly higher iron content in the stage 2 milk but that can often lead to constipation.

This has been super helpful. Thanks everyone. Nervous first time mum Blush

The HV cancelled a visit due to illness and now there is just no one available. I've managed for the last 6 months and my GP has been great for the odd questions I've needed but I definitely feel abandoned by the HVs after much chasing

The best thing about follow on is that it's usually cheaper and you can get offers on it.

Just give the usual amount. As solids increase milk consumption will go down.

And it's up to you whether you continue with follow in milk or go back to 1st milk. I'd use up what you have anyway before you decide.

Give the usual amount - you don't need to limit to 600mls
