Hi Ladies
Needing advice once again! DS 7mo was doing really well with food. He liked a variety of foods. now he wont even open his mouth when I come near him with a spoon. Things that he did like,ie. Bananas, cauliflower cheese. he is now refusing and gagging on. He wont eat anything except fruit and yoghurts. He has got a bit of a cold, and both dp and I have had sore throat's. maybe this could have something to do with it. but it was happening even before he got ill. any ideas anyone?

It's still quite early days, so I'd hold off on the solids for a while. DS didn't rally get going with eating till about 10 months. He had a cold recently and had littel besdies bf for a couple of days (at 13 mo)

you could try offering some finger foods as well?

Lurking as my ds3 7 months doind exactly the same - totally infuriating - mouth totally clenched shut except for fruit puree or yoghurt! I have started giving him finger foods as part of me thinks he sees his brothers and us eating and thinks he should be doing it himself. Also he shouts loudly when they eat and he hasn't got anything - he will eat anything really if you give it as finger food but very little seems to make it into his mouth ....

offer finger food - put him back in control.
some children just get fed up of having spoons poked at them

stop with the spoons. give food how you have it, just make sure it doesn't have salt added.

ds1 refused spoons when cutting front teeth, and finger food when cutting all other teeth (a VERY tedious 6 months of puree from 12-18 months) - any teeth in the offing? he eats nearly anything now.

sorry also ds2 is the same age as your lo and refused any solid food when he had a cold. it got better when he did.

finger foods don't have to be obvious traditional 'finger foods' like toast, biscotti whatever. you can give them anything, cottage pie, pasta wih sauce, whatever. just normal food. only thing to be aware of is to stop adding salt to cooking. if you like it salty then add it to your own portion. yes it's messy, but lots of babies prefer to eat this way. no spoons.

Can someone pls educate me as i'm a first time mom. How do you know then the teeth are "cutting through"? Do they need to be actually peircing the gums?

this happened with my dd at 7 months and so now I am doing BLW - what a difference.

Re the cutting the teeth thing, I think it is sometimes hard to judge. My dd has had rock hard gums for ages. I can see the teeth under the gums but I think she is still a couple of months away. I believe that cutting teeth is really when they begin to show through the gums, ie when you can see a tiny little bit of white tooth poking through.

with ds1, gums got very red, he cried 2-3 times in the night, he would not want to put his favourite foods in his mouth, after two weeks of this a tooth would finally appear through the gum. By the time it was all through the next one would start...
