How do I persuade a 13mnth old to give up teats ...

...DS is 13mnths old, has three milk feeds per day all using a teat. Trying to persuade him to have a spout but he is not having it. Tried for over a week and no progress. He drinks almost no water - if I can get a few drops in at meal times using the spout I consider I'm doing well. Any suggestions?

MM - have just started a similar thread myself. when dd was younger, i still gave her milk through a teat but left a tommy tippee beaker of water around. she gradually got used to it and now asks for it and drinks loads of water. the milk and bottles are another story though!

IIRC what we did with DS1 (who was a real bottle fiend) was gave him a spout when we knew he'd really want the bottle - first thing in the morning. He drank it no problem so we threw away the teats.

we are still struggling with dd and she is 2.6 now

I have decided that atm it is a battle not worth fighting

Millie - Have you tried taking the lid off completely? So no teat, no spout will be messy at first but might be worth a try
