BLW before 6 months?

Firstly, I'm in no hurry to wean! DS is 23 weeks old and exclusively BF, I am going to try BLW (despite total fear of choking). Last night he was sat on my knee while we were eating dinner, he was watching every mouthful we took and tried to grab food off the plate. So I let him grab brocolli (sp?). He put it straight to his mouth and definately swallowed some and then smeared the rest over his face/me/the table. Is it too soon to let him do this? Is it dangerous? I still don't intend to give him his own food- we haven't got a high chair yet! Why am I so fearful of BLW when I know it makes sense?!

some babies will be ready before 26 weeks. same as some will walk earlier etc etc, it's all about their physical ability. he probably won't eat a huge amount yet though. if i were you i wouldn't purposefully give him any food yet. but if he happens to grab some then no big deal.

I started at 23 weeks, couldn't wait!
I think the point is, if they're not ready they won't eat anything. He still only eats tiny amounts now (29 weeks)

what sort of things did you give at 23 weeks?
