6 month old weaning help

I've just started weaning my 6 month old. It is all very exciting. We are just doing veg so far! He has eaten all I've given him about 2 tbs so far of purreed food. I'm going to start introducing finger foods too. I've been feeding him a bottle at 10am his food around 11ish and then he sleeps around 12 until 2. My questions are how much food is enough? Is there a guide for portion control or should I just go with the flow. Also when do I need to add a second meal? I was thinking of doing breakfast next and then move his lunch until after his big nap? I don't want to move too quickly though and hurt his tummy. Any advice would be greatly received as I'm a first time Mummy with a lockdown baby who is just winging it! X

Weaning is very exciting isn't it, especially with your first.

In the NHS guidance they recommend moving to 3 meals between 8 and 9 months, so there's no rush yet.

I'd just keep offering a range of foods at the one meal for now and move to a second meal in a few weeks.

I found that it’s a fine balance between being satisfied from milk but hungry enough to still want to try their food. It takes some trial and error and learning to recognise/respond to your dc’s hunger and fullness cues.
Every baby is different but I found that for mine once they were having 2 tbsp at a time they were about ready for two meals per day. This took a week with my first and three weeks with my youngest.
When you start finger foods, don’t worry if he seems to play with his food more than actually eat it. It is totally normal and developmentally appropriate.
