6 Month Old Weaning Schedule

Hi everyone!

So I'm new to being a parent, looking looking advice and/or approval of my ideal of a feeding schedule once my LO hits 6 months (in 2 weeks). At the minute, she drinks 5 bottles a day every, 6-7 ounce per feed. She also sleeps through the night! I'm lucky. My idea for when she hits 6 months is as below:

8am - wake up
8:30am - 8oz bottle
11:30am - fruit or porridge or cereal & a little water
2:30pm - food (whatever we've had at dinner so long as baby safe), yoghurt & a little water
5:30pm - 8oz bottle
8:30pm - 8oz bottle
9pm - bed

Does anyone have anything to add to this, or disagree with it at all? I'm looking for help so any advice will be taken on board :)

Hi @MissMissy93

You say they're having 5 bottles, are they only having 3 of those in the day?

MissMissy93 · 12/03/2021 16:17

No, she has all 5 during the day and sleeps through the night

Really sorry, I must be being thick, I can't see 5 bottles in that schedule.

MissMissy93 · 12/03/2021 16:39

She currently drinks 5, but when we begin weaning I was told to drop a couple but increase the ounces. The schedule I put there is what I'm hoping to change to, sorry, its being unclear!

The general rule of thumb is offer bottle when you normally would and then offer food up to 1 hour after milk. Food before 1 is just for fun. Dont cut 2 bottles out from the start! They barely eat anything to begin with and need to get all their nutrition from the milk.

I'd suggest starting with single foods so they experience different tastes and textures. I'd also recommend starting with veg rather than fruit as fruit is very sweet and veg isnt so its healthier basis to start at.

Theres lots of groups on Facebook. Baby led weaning or traditional weaning whichever route you're going down. I'd recommend baby led as then they can just eat whatever you're eating at the same time.

Thank you, I have started her on first tastes already just to get her used to food. I will check out baby led weaning ☺

You start on one meal a day and work up to 3. Don't go straight in at two. Also, you're better off starting on just a food or veg as it's easier to digest (and you'll know, if she has a bad reaction, what it was she had a reaction to) rather than a full meal and pudding.

She probably won’t want that much food to be begin with. I started weaning at 5 months due to reflux (paediatrician advice) so at 6 months she was doing as follows:-

5am: 6oz bottle (night feed)
7:30-7:45am: wake
8am: porridge/cereal
9am: 6oz bottle

12pm: 6oz bottle
1pm: if she wasn’t due a nap I gave her a little something here to get her used to lunch
3pm: 6oz bottle
6:30pm: 6oz bottle

She went up to 2 meals by 6.5 months, down to 4 bottles at 7 months and down to 3 bottles and up to 3 meals at 8.5 months.
