Good books to read up on weaning (poss BLW)

Not long to go till we'll start weaning DD - I want to read up on it. We are strongly considering baby lead weaning but the book could also just be a nutritional guide.

Also, what's the longest you can leave it before starting to wean?

I too am looking for advice on weaning and would love to know about any good books that might help! My daughter is 24 weeks and has been on demand feeding until now.

no books on blw specifically. your best bet is babyledweaning.com

for blw recipe type things and some nutritional info try jenny maizels finger food for babies and toddlers.

the good thing with blw is that you don't need a book or a plan or anything at all special. you just hand over normal food. do you have a good diet yourself? babies need rather more fat than adults, and less fibre than adults perhaps. easy to add cream, butter, cheese etc to your normal meals for baby.

as for how long you can leave it..well i believ in some far eastern countries they don't wean until nearer 8 or 9 months. certainly lots of blw babies, often breastfed babies, have no interest in anything other than milk until nearer a year old. good thing about blw, again, is that it can take as long as you like, there is no time table etc like some weaning 'experts' encourage.

In fact I have heard from someone who said in her country it is just milk until 2 years old and then they do BLW (although they don't call it that).
