what sort of high chair should i go for?

getting myself organised for weaning dd at 6 months
i was thinking of a wooden high chair as i think it would look best !
but what do you find the most practical ?
are the wooden ones uncomfortable ?

Tripp Trapp. dd has never had a comfort issue with hers and has used it for over 5 years.

i think there are 2 options

1. cheap as chips from ikea (does teh job)
2. expensive trip trap or its ilk (looks nice you can use it at normal table for all sort of stuff like painting etc for years)

lots of thread on this, tripp trapp is fab - dd1 still in hers at 6 (we have 3 of them !!
also have had cheapy ikea white one which also looks great and does the job. don't get one with plastic cover, horrendous to clean up

Get one with the least nooks and crannies for food to get trapped in. Find one which requires only a quick wipeover. I have found the Ikea on to be the best that I have used.

or one of those booster seat thingys with optional tray which you just strap to ordinary chair. cheaper than a high chair and somewhat portable (if you go anywhere to stay in acar i guess)

I think trip trap are great but you don't need to spend all that money. You can get other cheeper wooden or plain plastic ones. Avoid anything with lots of detachable covers, padding etc. They are a nightmare to clean and I've found that they don't last very long and end up ripping.

whats trip trap? is it a brand ? where do you get them from ?

we have Tripp Trapps as well but didnb't find them particluary useful in the early stages - you really need as tray especially if you are going to do BLW.

We have a cheap one that fits onto a chair as well - this weaning thing gets extremely messy and you need one you can clean easily.

clic clac on ebay is tray that fits tripp trapp. i love ours and like that it will be A KEEPSAKE DS (oops) will still be able to use it as an adult

Ikea or trip trap - not not not one of the all singing all dancing padded ones - I spent £100 on mine and the seams have gone, food is dried on everywhere despite showering/power hosing/disinfecting all the time. We are binning it soon for the ikea one. THere is so many little places food gets it's disgusting and you need pipe cleaners to get some bits out.

sounds like its def best not to get a padded one then .

has anyone ever used a Fresco? they look quite funky but it needs to be practical too

Our £12 Ikea one is fab. We also have a Tripp Trapp (was a gift) which was brilliant when she was very small, and will be brilliant again when she is a bit bigger, but for the middle bit where she's learning to eat, I really can't recommend the Ikea one enough. It's so easy to clean, light, the legs come off so we chuck it in the car when we go away, nice big tray (good for drawing and playdoh too).

It means that she sits at the head of the table in the Ikea one and can really explore her food, spread yogurt in her eyebrows, dunk stuff in her drink, pour her drink into her meal and I don't have to worry about the mess or keep stopping her grabbing things at the table, so we really do all eat together (instead of one of us fielding all the time).

Also looking forward to her sitting up with us in the Tripp Trapp again when she's a bit less experimental .

Yes Fresco Bloom - love it! Expensive but very practical and although less important, a niece piece of furniture too.

The hydralic mechanism means you can have the chair at any height and so converts to cool toddler chair.

3 recline settings including 'cradle' for young babies (so you can use it instead of a bouncing chair in the kitchen).

It swivels so you can your baby face anywhere in the kitchen...wipeable and very comfortable (although the material looks like fake suede, I've spilt spinach etc and no stains once wiped). Plus it has two removable trays (one smaller/one larger) that can be adjusted to be nearer or further away baby.

One of my friends went straight online when she saw how practical it was and she loves it too. Even my mum approved (despite the price)!

TRIPP TRAPP they are FANTASTIC all three of my boys have them and have done so from an early age, as they can sit up at the table and are completely adjustable, the 'bump' will get one too

those plastic boosters with a tray that can attach onto a normal chair are good too, we have one of those for going away etc and we sometimes used it at home too the only problem i found was that it has lots of nooks and crannies for collecting bits of food. but they are cheap and dont take up much space

Just boought a Tripp Trapp for our 6 month DS, it is FAB! Got it from Back in action, they have a good Tripp Trapp creator on their website to help you chose colour combinations etc!

Well, I had a pretty standard one £25 or something or other and it did last around 18 months, its just collapsed this week. (Now DD can climb in and out) But I do always wish I bought one of those wooden 'cube' type chairs that also adapt, when they are older into a little table and chair. As I am now going to have to go out and buy a little table and chair. (We live in a flat, so no room for a dining table)

I've recently bought a Mothercare Pinecube wooden one - I liked the look of it and it was recommended in Which as one of their best buys. It was £45 but you have to buy a harness thing separately. On the plus side it's one of the kind that slinky mentions that converts into a little table and chair. My dad actually bought it for us. I live about a mile from a large branch of Mothercare and it's on my way home from a lot of places I take my baby to.

DS certainly doesn't find his highchair uncomfortable. He stopped crying when I started getting him ready to put in it today, which I assume means he likes the chair or has positive associations with it as a place where he gets given food.

I got this off Ebay for about £50 and I love it!
