How much should an 8 mo be eating?

I am trying to do a combination of purees and BLW, but my LO doesn't actually eat that much. I am wondering if this is pretty normal for her age, and as we go on, she will eat more? For example, for breakfast this morning, she had sliver fingers of nectarine, a cut up strawberry, and maybe 3 mouthfuls of skyr yogurt, maybe half a teaspoon of peanut butter, and water from her cup. It didn't look to be all that much, and some of it got mashed, instead of eaten. I am also starting to get worried about sugar content, as she loves fruit - and just thinking that if I give it to her 2x a day, thats a lot of sugar. I am desperately trying to get away from pouches, though my homemade food doesn't always go down well.... any tips??

That sounds absolutely fine for breakfast for an 8 month old.

If you are trying to getaway from pouches, I'd try and look at it a bit differently. It really doesn't matter if she refuses a food. She could refuse food for all sorts of reasons, she might not be hungry, she might be teething, she might just be holding out for fruit or a pouch. Whichever it is, I'd just serve her what you were planning and ignore it if she refuses. It might take a couple of days of whinging before she realises that it's the food in offer or nothing but she won't starve at 8 months as she'll still be getting plenty of milk Smile

There's a good guide here too including portion sizes.

Don't worry if she doesn't eat as much as it suggests for a meal or two though.

I was always told to look at what they consume over a week as babies and children can eat like birds some days and amaze you with what they consume on others.

@Hawse how are things going? Have a similar situation with our 7.5 month old. A lot of her food gets played with/ squished in her hands. She is eating something, but not increasing very fast. Wondering if she'll naturally eat more gradually as we go on, or if I should offer more, but since so much ends up on the floor seems like she wouldn't want more!

@DuaLipaSuction thanks for sharing that guide, really useful. I don't think we're offering as much at each meal as it suggests... Will try following some of the suggestions and see how it goes
