How much should a 7month Baby eat?

Hi,

My daughter is 7months. She is still exclusively breastfeed. She doesn't really eat anything, she has a few mouthfuls of food. My mum says abs should be eating full meals now.

How much do baby's actually eat at 7months?

I try to give her breakfast, lunch, dinner but she rather just eat some bread! Lol.

Can you tell me how much baby's should eat? Should she be having whole meals?

Thanks Smile

Neither of my DSs ate at all at 7 months. They played with food, spat mouthfuls of yoghurt at me and drank breast milk in vast quantities. Both are good eaters now (tough wood) at 4 and 8. They got the hang of food around 9 months. We did what I would describe as partial baby led weaning which essentially meant no purées and lots of finger food.

Oh and my utterly lovely DMIL nearly had a breakdown watching DS1 (about 9 months) cheerfully chuck little fingers of quiche around and (to her eternal credit) whispered to DH that maybe we could FEED DS1. But said not a word to me despite fretting. She was utterly chilled about DS2...but our approach was so alien to her.

Not much, honestly!

@DelurkingAJ I'm scared she will choke, I gave her little bits but I'm scared to give her finger foods, I really want to but so terrified!!SadSad

If you’re there and watching then how about something she can chew at to get the idea rather than something so soft that she gets it into pieces? I remember cucumber sticks and carrot sticks being sucked and I was always vigilant.

But yes, don’t stress, lots of babies aren’t eating at 7 months. Do think about vitamins though (I’m sure you are but in case...breast milk isn’t fortified like formula so she’ll need them).

Good luck! Weaning is at best amusing and at worst a huge amount of stress!

@DelurkingAJ

Ok I'll try some sticks, my mum did say that, it's just the thought but I have to try get pass the fear. I've noticed and doesn't seem to like smooth food, I've tried soooo many, the only thing she will eat is fruit purée and yogurt, but she's also quite small to so I thought she may be lacking. And as for vitamins I was told breast milk gave them all the vitamins they needed. I didn't know she needed any more than what she was getting from my milk x

Good luck!

NHS guidance re vitamins is here (I confess we were erratic about them with DSs and both are very healthy).
