Baby just eating fruit and yoghurt

My DD is nearly 10 months. Been having some solids since 6 months. We do a mixture of finger food and spoon feeding. She is BF so I don't know how much milk she is getting. Basically she will only really eat fruit and plain yogurt. It's a definite no to fish and meat. Occasionally a mouthful of omlette or a few chews on a bit of toast, and 3 or 4 mouthfuls of porridge. She's not even very keen on sweet veg, won't eat carrots or sweet potato. She will eat a bit of cheese. Just wanting some reassurance that this is okay, or whether it's time to speak to HV? I know lots of other babies wolfing down bowls of spag bol and cottage pie etc.

If she refuses the savoury, do you still offer yoghurt and fruit? She might be holding out for the things she prefers.

Just one more thing, if you haven't started offering food before a BF it might be time to start that now. It should encourage her to eat a little more Smile

Both of mine were blw and bf. They tasted and played with everything, but didn't really eat anything substantially until they were 14m. They are both really excellent eaters now, eat everything and will try anything. But under a year, their nutrients came from milk. Even DD who was bf - I couldnt get the hang of expressing - and I was at work from 8mo. She hardly ate a thing and made up for it at night.

At less than 12 months I really wouldn't worry about it

FairyontopofthetreeBatman · 30/12/2020 09:13

At her age don’t worry. DS wouldn’t really touch meat until well over 2 except in cottage pie. When spoon feeding maybe try fruit and veg mixed. Pear or apple and sweet potato was a big hit here.

I could have written this post! We can get savoury food in but only with some fruit at the same time, I was so worried too that I was the only one😂😂😂😂

@Keha My LO is approaching 8 months and is really similar to your DD in terms of weaning! Did she eventually take to other foods aside from fruit and yoghurt? X

Keha · 24/06/2023 18:36

Hiya @poppet131 , she does eat a more varied diet now but still not everything, she likes things quite plain, like plain pasta and we have a few staple meals we eat a lot. I would say she is quite fussy but eats a big enough variety that it isn't a problem. She still basically doesn't eat meat. She doesn't seem to have a huge appetite. I notice other kids asking for food/snacks but she generally doesn't ask. She does have a sweet tooth and will definitely ask if there is cake around.
