My 10 month is struggling with solids

Hi I've got a 10 month old boy. He's been weaning since 6 months and he's now on 3 meals a day but he's only just started eating lumpy foods at around 7-8months and I can't seem to get him to eat anything else for his dinner except 1 flavour of the Heinz 7months+ jar, if I gave him any other flavour he boaks or chokes until he's sick, every couple of days I'm trying him with a new flavour but it's the same thing and then I'll give him the flavour he likes and he will eat it no problem? Any advice would be great as I don't want to give him the same thing every night for dinner.

Have you tried actual food? The lumps in the jars tend to be quite firm whereas if you mashed up your own food they may be softer. Would he eat any finger foods?

Just put real food in front of him and let him feed himself. It’s normal for babies to gag and if he hasn’t been used to normal food it will take him longer to get it. But he will. Just let him play and practice and don’t get hung up on how much he’s eaten.

I'm in the same boat! My 10 month old was a nightmare in the beginning stages...vomiting on any recommended finger food I gave her...gagging at everything. She's better now but doesn't eat much. The HV moaned at is as she's still having around 6 bottles of milk (6-7oz) a day. She told me to give her less milk and this will help with the eating of food. While that doesn't sit very well with me, we're going to give it a go. I suppose milk is just so much easier for them and they get that full feeling from it so the actual food part is a lot more work. Also you could ask for a referral to the speech and is language therapist... they're involved with the swallowing and gag reflex. We were under them for a bit as I was very anxious around food time as she would throw up so much. It did help a bit. I just keep thinking to myself, there aren't many 2 year olds who don't eat proper food so she's just a bit slower on the uptake. We'll get there! Good luck

I've tried him with some actual food but had the same issue, he's not great at finger foods either he plays with it which I don't mind he's getting used to the texture of it but he won't bring the food to his mouth he will only eat finger foods if I put the food in his mouth. The HV suggested just letting him play with the food and he will bring it too his mouth eventually but it's been a few weeks and still nothing. I'll try him again with actual food thanks for your advice x
