Is it normal for a 6 month old to be into food one day and not the next day?

yes, absolutely ! as adults, we have days where we are not as hungry as others, babies do to! as long as having enough milk, wet and pooey nappies, and is happy and alert, no cause for concern. milk is still primary source of nutrition for the first year. food is a complement to that.
