Since I weaned my 18 month old she has always had bother with choaking and it's definitely not gagging she does that loads too but choaking to the point her face turns red or blue and she cant gasp air! It's really scary so for the first 15/16 months we had really only stuck to soft foods like mash potatoes small bits of meat and soft veg and we had always fed her but Over the last few weeks I've been trying to add more harder foods like sausages, toast, sandwiches and shes been feeding herself but shes choked probably 2 or 3 times a week and it terrifies her 😔😔and us! My mother In law refuses to feed her on her own because theres always the risk! I'm a nurse and I worked on ENT and I've mentioned to the heath visitor multiple times and she always just says it's normal but choking isnt normal!! Gagging yes! But choking to the point she is changing colour and cant breath cant be normal! I feel like shes falling behind compared to her little friends she also doesnt speak many words probably about 3 really

How very frightening for you all. You must dread meal times. I would absolutely push for further investigations especially if she’s showing signs of other delayed speech, how is her other aspects of development. I would visit the doctor if you’re not getting anywhere with the health visitor and see what they suggest or if they can refer you onto someone else, you health visitor in my opinion is failing you and not acknowledging the risk to your child.
