BLW a premature baby

DD is 19 weeks and I'm being encouraged to think about starting to wean her. I'm hoping to not start weaning until she is six months and am interested in BLW. I'm a bit worried though about doing BLW with her because I've been told that as she was premature I need to make sure that she gets calorie dense food and not to take too long about getting her to eat 3 decent sized meals a day. I've also been told that she will need more iron-rich foods than a baby born at term.

Is my HV talking out of her backside whilst trying to scare me into weaning DD now the 'traditional' way or is she talking sense? How can I make sure that DD eats enough and the 'right' foods for her if I do BLW?

I'm coming under a lot of pressure to wean her becuase she has stopped sleeping through the night due to hunger (but she is a distracted little missy during the day so she has to get her milk quota in at some point). She has put on 5oz per week for the last 5 weeks so I'm not worried about her weight gain. I've resisted the suggestions from HV to top DD up with formula as she clearly doesn't need it. I don't understand why they are enouraging me to wean her now just because she is past 17 weeks given the current WHO guidelines.

Sorry to ramble a bit. Would love some support!

I don't know anything about prem babies but I did BLW with my DS at nearly six months (after 2 months of him breast feeding constantly at night because he too was distractable and was having a growth spurt)

I found that we were on three meals a day much quicker than our 'traditional' friends and that he had a much wider diet and ate more - this is purely personal though and other BLW experience is different I am sure. I just gave him soft steamed 'fingers' of veg and then fruit whenever I was having something to begin with and increased the variety and complexity over time.

It might be different for prem so hope someome has more ideas....

This thread might help, and would be a good place for you to post your question.

Thanks for that link. I've posted a message on there and hope to find someone more knowledgable about prem BLW than me (and my HV!)
