my DS is 7months and I'm struggling with lunch ideas. He currently has cheese spread sandwiches, sometimes pasta but he hardly eats anything, cocktail sausages.

He eats finger foods and im really struggling with lunch ideas. My HV said he has to have veg, protein and carbs for lunch and dinner times but he doesn't eat too much so stuggling

It seems very early in the weaning process to be worried about amount or types of food . FWIW I used to make thick soup and they would dip / soak bread in it or boiled eggs or sardines/ tuna/ cheese on toast or left over dinner from the night before . Otherwise they got chopped up cucumber, chicken, cheese, fruit etc .

@yikesanotherbooboo my health visitor said at his 6months check that now hes weaning I have to get him to eat proper meals for lunch and dinner.

Thank you for them ideas. Im going to not worry and just give him some of the foods you've put

My DD is a bit older but I’ve always found lunch a hassle to think of things, generally she has;

Soup and bread
Sandwiches
Omelette
French toast
Scrambled egg and toast
Pasta with veg/tomato

Generally that kind of thing followed by fruit/yoghurt. If you can throw in veg/proteins/calcium then great but I don’t worry too much about it at every single meal - so long as generally she gets what she needs over the day!

My DC used to just have a ‘picky’ style lunch, usually a random selection of:
Baton of cheese or grated cheese, strips of ham or cooked chicken breast, boiled egg, tuna or salmon chunks, torn up pitta bread or wrap, toast soldiers, cooked prawns, avocado, slices of kiwi, very ripe pear, melon, petit filous, butter beans....

My baby is about the same age and he likes pasta too, you could try blending up veggies to go with it like carrot pepper and tomatoes for the sauce so then they’re hidden Smile I do a big pot maybe once a week and freeze in little tubs so I’m not constantly cooking! He also likes playing with broccoli so hopefully some will go in one day!

He goes crazy for cucumber too, think gnawing it feels nice on their gums so some of that must go in 🤞🏼

Thank you for all these idea. My DS loves cucumber, he tried to put the whole piece in his mouth the other day he loves it that much.

I'm going to use some of these ideas and not worry about what the health visitor said. He enjoys most of what everyone has written so hopefully it works out
