Hello all. I desperately need help 'cos I'm losing it a bit. I've started my DS on baby rice, as per advice from HV. I've been doing it for about 10 days now and we're up to 3 tsp a day in the morning. But he's drinking less and less forumla. He's normally a good drinker - 8-9 floz four times a day, now though, we're lucky if we get 4 down him. This morning, first thing he only took 2 then starts arching his back, crying and kicking? HV said he could have a mild lactose intolerance. The feeding issues have been going on for a while (have been taking him to see a Chiro which really helped) but they have got so much worse since the baby rice. HV also suggested I give him something else - pureed carrot or something. Is this rejection of the bottle normal. Please, any advice would be brilliant - I'm getting a very worried about him. When we're not feeding him he's pretty happy.... bless. Thanks everso.

what about just stopping the baby rice? your HV shouldn't be advising you to do it at 5 months, 6 months is the World Health Organisation guideline and until the age of 1 milk is infinitely more important as a source of nutrition than supplementary solids.
ditch the solids and see what happens, it's had to separate out intolerances etc if he's having different foods. hth.

agree with Aitch (obviously )

keep up the milk feeds as per before and only offer solids (finger foods type stuff) when you are sitting up at the table as well and then he will eat when he's hungry.

Also - leave it a couple more weeks and stop going to see the HV

I was thinking along those lines, too. I was sort of thinking, now I'd started weaning, I shouldn't stop. But I think you might be right. He does love the baby rice, though.

see how you get on, it is much more important that he loves his milk, tbh.

I'm all for weaning when you're (baby) is ready but he sounds like he needs his milk tbh. Go back to just formula and see what happens.

baby rice is yak btw - if he likes food he'll love fruit & veg when he's ready.
