Just given ds a bit of what I was eating... carrot, steak and mushroom from my stew...

... and he picked it up with his fingers, and quite a bit went into his mouth and he gummed / chewed it ... and swallowed it!!!

So exciting!

Only trouble is, this means dh and I have to eat much more healthily now if we're giving ds bits of our food...

Never mind!

yes you will... [stern]
that's a great start, well done baby mossy.

daisyandbabybootoo · 04/10/2007 21:14

how old is he then?

I want to BLW, but thought I'd still have to start with quite light foods like fish and chicken and maybe some pasta and rice. I didn't realise I could set babyboo off on steak and chips, LOL.

I'm glad he enjoyed it!

scarybee · 04/10/2007 21:18

I knew this would be you

AitchTwoOh · 04/10/2007 21:19

daisy they don't really do much more than suck steak to death in the most revolting fashion at the beginning, so it's ideal.

DD blw through her own choice, she was quite adamant early on that she wanted to feed herself.

Now, at 15 months, she eats mostly what we eat, she eats it well, uses a fork, and will not touch anything she considers to be baby food. She wont allow us to feed her anything now. Its great. She used to make proper mess, but is actually getting very good at aiming. Its cute to watch, she is so proud of herself and she really enjoys mealtimes. She tries anything, not really a fussy eater.

I agree BLW is great . It will get better too!

A good thing to start with is scrambled egg (allergies allowing) and banana, sweet potato, grapes with skin off and cut in half.

I must look at your blog again aitch...can you link it and I'll add it to my faves? We have a few weeks to go though as she is just 17 weeks, but to think I was shovelling pureed sweet potatoes down DSs throat at this age 5 years ago!!

Sorry mossy for the slight hi-jack!!

AitchTwoOh · 04/10/2007 22:03

it's at www.babyledweaning.com

daisyandbabybootoo · 04/10/2007 23:47

ta muchly

Mossy · 05/10/2007 07:21

Daisyandbabyboo, he is twenty five weeks' old. Was going to wait until twenty six on the dot but then he tried to nick my banana while I was holding him and eating said fruit and I thought "what difference is a week going to make?" and started him there and then.

So it's out with the shop-bought pizzas and in with healthy steamed vegetables etc.

And I guess chips are out too, unless they're home made ones in the oven. Ah well!!

will be a friday or saturdya night in novmeber, so far, plan is to meet at mine, bring chips, dips and drinks, and then we can walk into town from there or stay at mine and get merry !

so probably adults only ...
BLW doesn;t include beer and nachos

daisyandbabybootoo · 05/10/2007 10:39

mossy, from what I've read, when they start grabbing food off your plate they're more than ready for it
