SIL training to be a midwife and talking to HV during her training. The HV told her how she'd encouraged one mum of a 6 monther to 'start feeding him a bit of what you're eating' Next visit she found they'd pureed a fish supper and were feeding it through a bottle . Now a fish supper is one thing but in a bottle? I nearly fainted

PMSL. sometimes you do think we ought to be licensed as parents, don't you, after attending classes in How Not To Be A Total Idiot.

I used to CM for a couple who after weeks of me telling them that perhaps their son should get started on something other than bottles, they came in one day with a tin of meatballs and 2 cheese and pickle sandwhiches and said
"The HV said that he needs finger food and something to chew on, so these should be ok".

my hv told me over 4 months should be off the bottle!!if they can swallow shouldnt be sucking was that normal?

Thing is they were very rigid, it was almost as though bits of what they did was from a book. I had the baby from 7am till 5pm, so he would come to me having had a bottle at say 6, then there would be one for 10am and one for 2pm and htat was it. He only had two bottles, so if he was really hungry,or thirsty it was tough. I tried to say that just because some books said babies feed every 4 hours, most of them don't. They only ever sent 3 nappies as well!
