first time mum asking about weaning

she was a couple of weeks into it with her 5.5mo

hv said something along the lines of "you should get started with some other types of food [other than fruit purees] as you've started quite late"

the mum said "but isn't the advice to wait til 6 months?"

"yes, officially, but most start at around 17 weeks, so you're quite l;ate"

have image of mum scuttlin out to buy pork chops...

I just put in Infant nutritian in the WHO wearch and that is what came up. If you read the in formation you provide again it is about low income countries and the lack of good alternative nutritian, and innappropriate food for weaning

christy - WHO advice on infant feeding is exclusive bf to six months....and it has been that way for several years now.

It's no longer controversial, and these standards have been adopted worldwide, inc the UK.

Took ds2 in to get weighed today he is 6 mths and tis only his 2nd weighing (see previous angst ridden posts circa 5 yrs ago with dd as to why I avoid them)

WEight fine, height great, so she says are you weaning yet. I said yep he is eating great, she said what sort of foods is he eating
I said cheese sandwiches, yoghurt, bits if chicken, lentil curry, rice krispies/shreddies you know, just everything...
And she said
And I bet you are still bf then
I said yep
She said oh lord you are a cracker! And patted me kindly!

blimey nora
I have never got involved with a weaning thread
but you make it soundl iike this woman wants herding to the edge of the village and then stoning!

I weaned ds1 only 6 short years ago at 16 weeks. As far as I know it wasn't a bitching about offence then. Maybe things have changed.
