My DS is 5 1/2 months old, have been feeding him solids for about 3 weeks, the problem is he wont eat homemade veg and will only eat jarred foods, can someone give me some ideas of what i can make, is he aloud spag bowl, bangers and mash with beans/spaghetti.

If anyone has some ideas on what i can give him please let me know as feeling quite desperate, dont really want him eating jarred food. xx

Try to get hold of a book like Lorraine Kelly's one or Annabel Karmel because they let you know what babies can have at each stage.
Try introducing some natural flavours like onion, and maybe some herbs. If he doesn't have jars to eat he'll eat your food if he's hungry.. You need to be patient.
Good Luck!!

When is it safe to feed my baby....?

Which weaning foods to introduce when

The above links give a general idea of when foods can be introduced. To put it simply though gluten free cereals (e.g. baby rice), fruits and veg are ok up to 6 months. From 6 months gluten can be introduced in the form of bread, pasta, wheat based cereal. Dairy and meats can also be introduced then. In fact from 6 months most things can be given apart from whole nuts, honey and anything high in salt.

I would say that a 5 1/2 month old is a bit young for spag bowl and bangers etc. Some babies don't even START solids until 6-7 months so at 5 months he is very little to be eating adult food. The recommended food for a baby this young is just baby cereals mixed with formula. Once they get a little older - around 7 months, they are capable of tolerating more spicier foods. If you have done the cereal thing, next move onto purees of fruits and veg. If you've done that too, then I would suggest mixing your homemade food in with the jarred kind and letting him get used to it. Then slowly add less baby food. I had the same trouble with mine, she only wanted the baby food because i wasn't consistent enough in giving her homemade. Stick with it, he'll come round.

Also, meat should be given after 7-8 months. Just stick with fruits and veg until he is a couple months older. And when he is able to eat adult food, leave out any salt/pepper/other seasonings from the mash etc. (Beans have salt).

If you are following the guidelines your ds shouldn't really be eating any of the foods you have listed as his gut probably isn't mature enough to deal with them.

However, if you choose to carry on weaning him I would probably try fruit and veg purees that are sweet. If he still won't eat veg, try mixing a sweet fruit puree with the veg puree, then slowly reduce the amount of fruit so he gets used to a more savoury taste.
