Tips for improving sippy cup drinking

Hello!
My son turned 6 months the beginning of the last week. We started giving him vegetables and fruits about 2 weeks before and he took to them really well. We're now about 10 days since he turned 6 months and we're absolutely off to the races. He's on 3 square meals a day and has eaten pretty much everything.
He was never that keen on milk (I had a terrible terrible time breastfeeding and switched him to formula when he was really young) and now he is eating his intake has fallen off a cliff. He JUST about has the recommend amount (20oz) but a lot of the time less. I use his milk when I'm cooking so that probably adds a couple of ounces as well.
Nutrient wise I'm not too worried as he's eating proper meals, all home cooked with good ingredients. The only thing is fluid intake.
The last few nights he has started wanting a bottle in the night (he has slept through since 10 weeks) and I think it is the fluids he's after.
I give him a Tomee Tippee sippy cup with water during all these meals but he's not really interested and takes the tiniest sips. His technique is also questionable....

Sorry for making that ridiculously long.... basically has anyone got any tips for encouraging a baby to drink more water?
Are there any better sippy cups I could buy to try?
Thanks is advance!
