Portion sizes over 1 year!

Hi! DS is 14 months now and is what most people describe as a "big, sturdy boy who loves his food!"

He is 28lb and 78cm which is 98th and between 50th and 75th centiles respectively.

I'm struggling to know what a normal portion size should be for him, as he would literally eat til it came out his ears. Loves his food and eats everything put in front of him.

I know there are worse problems to have, but I'm bit worried he isn't going to slim out like everyone said he would when he started walking because I'm unwittingly feeding him too much! He has been walking confidently for about a month now and barely stops throughout the day, so he does get plenty of exercise.

Any advice would be appreciated! Smile

Portion plates might help?
I never really know but DS who is 10 months has a bamboo plate with sections and I just go from that. If he doesn't want it he won't eat it. And don't worry about him not loosing weight. He sounds perfect

Thanks @SpillTheTeaa

His bamboo plates are in various portions and I do tend to try sticking to that, but anyone who sees him eat always comments how much he manages to get through and still want more Blush so I'm not sure if he's genuinely hungry or just greedy iyswim?

The food he eats is all pretty healthy and homemade with the odd treat like a mini low sugar custard pot or a baby cereal bar if we're out of the house. The health visitor commented that he was a bit too heavy at his 6-9 month review and advised me not to force him to finish food (which I've never done anyway!) But she hasn't seen him since!

They just go off a chart and apparently every baby needs to be the same Grin. Oh other people can bore off. There is always someone who will comment. They'd make comments if he was eating too little amounts to so you can't win.
I don't think he'd eat if he genuinely didn't want it. He's got a good appetite which is really good. As long as he's happy and healthy that's all that matters

You're right, I need to just stop letting other people influence me don't I. He's my first so I've never done this before and I suppose when lots of people say the same thing it makes me doubt myself a bit!

Some people will have an opinion about everything. They're probably a bit jealous he eats everything. I know I am! Grin
