Finger food - DS shoving right in mouth, swallowing without really chewing

Just a bit concerned. I have been giving my DS (9 months)toast, pitta strips, small chunks of cheese, ripe fruit pieces, pasta etc for a couple of weeks.
Problem is he puts the pieces in his mouth almost all at once, does chew a little but I think he swallows too soon. His little face then goes all patchy red and his eyes water. What am I doing wrong...?

you are not doing anything wrong, he'll get the hang of it soon just keep going!

I would just manage the amount of food he is able to pick up. Only giving him a little at a time to feed himself with. As gillhowe said, he will get the hang of it.
