5 months next week and showing signs

My DD is 5 months next week and for a while has shown an interest in foods - following as I'm eating, opening her mouth when I take a bite, she can sit and hold her head up and bring all sorts to her mouth, teethers etc. She hasn't bothered with a dummy for about 2 months now but she's being fussy today so I tried to offer her one and she grabbed my fist, pulled it toward her face with her mouth wide open and shoved it straight in but when she realised it was a dummy she spat it straight out. Does she sound ready to start weaning or is this normal behaviour? If I were to wean I'd be doing BLW but at 5 months I wouldn't start her on much, just bits here and there as I know their digestive system isn't quite ready yet. Just after advice please!

You aren't really supposed to start BLW until they are 6 months, as they need to be able to sit with with their held up on their own and also their digestive system needs to be ready. I would say 5 months is a bit early but if you can hold off for another couple of weeks then it would probably be OK to start giving a few bits - it's not like on the stroke of midnight on their 6 month birthday they are suddenly ready!

Have you tried upping her milk? Is she breastfed or bottle fed?

@CaroleFuckinBaskin amazing username. That's probably a good shout, I'd be less dubious if she were 5.5 months etc. Sounds silly but it's such a big amount of time when they're so little!

We started with my DD at 23 weeks when she grabbed a sandwich and scoffed it.

Following what you eat isn't really a sign, she probably watches you doing most things, but sitting up and putting food in her mouth is a sign.

Could you give her a couple of lightly steamed carrot sticks and seeing if she eats those?

Until she's 6 months though, it's supposed to be things like fruit and veg only.
