lunch ideas please for an 18 month old. inspire me!.

he's getting fed up of sarnies.

only thing is he won't eat eggs. but am doing the online shop now what should I add?

I have wraps (he wasn't keen on pitta breads)

what do you put in the wraps? HELP!!! lol.

hummus
roasted veggies - in the wraps
grilled chicken - in the wraps
roast sweet potato with cream cheese
tuna and sweetcorn with pasta

if he won't eat eggs, does this include omlettes or eggy bread as these are both good, quick meals

rice cakes
cream crackers with houmous/cheese/tuna and salad
little baked potatoes
breadsticks/carrot sticks/pepper strips/cucumber pieces, and stuff to dip (homous, spicy passata, yoghurt, cream cheese etc)
crumpet pizzas/muffin pizzas

haven't tried omlette - can't cook them but does incl scrambled eggs and eggy bread.

he def hates humous as well. but will try the cottage cheese.

what's the nmuffin/crumpet pizza? that sounds intresting for him.

spread the crumpet/muffin with passata/tomato puree, grate cheese all over it, add basil
/tuna/veg/ham/whatever he likes, and grill until cheese starts to brown!

this is a reliable fall-back when my kids are ill/fussy/not eating for whatever bizarre reason

ah like pizza bread then? sounds yummy actually might give it a try for me! lol.

omelettes are your friend !

my failsafe is 2 eggs, splash of milk and a handful of grated cheese plus whatever veggies

whack into a hot, non-stick frying pan and cook

then put under the grill - the omelette browns and goes all puffy and lovely

leftovers from night before

quesadillas (2wraps made into a sandwich with cheese plus something else ie tuna/chicken/peppers anything really, then blasted in microwave to melt cheese and stick it all together, then slice like a pizza)

mini pizzas (muffins plus ketchup plus cheese plus topping, grilled)

cheese on beans on toast

(we do eat a lot of cheese here!)

gnocchi (find it next to pasta, add pesto...and maybe some cheese!)

crudites (basically bits of raw stuff, cherry toms, celery, salady bits, strips of toast..and cheese if you like!)

also, try different sandwich fillings. what's he having now?

good book is finger foods for babies and toddlers by jenny maizels.

1.Cheese crackers and grapes

2.Homemade soup -make a batch, freeze it in dc sized portions and defrost at will

3.Flaked tuna, rice and tomatoes -loved this when I was a student and so does ds!

4. Baked potatoes - a small one would do for lunch.

ruddy - he's currently having a sandwich (of sorts, ham cheese) on occassion jam with either a yoghurt or fruit for afters. or cheese on toast, beans on toast etc - he'll eat the cheese off or beans but leave the toast.

today he tried some of that chicken/mushroom pasta which went down quite well.

we eat our main meal at 5 so quite keen for it to be enough to last till then as until now he's been having a small snack at 3 as well which i'm trying to cut out if poss.

i do think they need snacks though. at least something like a banana. dd's lunch is early, about 11.30, then she has snack plus milk at 3, then tea at about 5. she's 16 momths. get that book i suggested, it's fab. don't really want to go copying recipes onto here but it's full of ideas. also look at the babyledweaning.com blog.

ok will do thanks, at the mo, he has brekkie when waking- cereal and milk or fruit and milk snack at 10.30-11 ish then lunch at 12-1 then tea for 5. snacks have been toast or bread sticks or something like that. depending on what he's eaten already iycwim.

lots of recipes on the blog, and totally agree with ruddynorah that children need snacks. oatcakes are a firm favourite in this house.

Can I just be annoying and say that some children don't need snacks? My ds won't eat his meals if he has snacks and in our house the meals come first. He can eat fruit when ever he likes and seems to be okay with this but if he has a biscuit to he just won't eat a meal. He has loads of exercise but this doesn't really make a difference. He is of slight build (like my side of the family) and has always been very active so you would think that he would need snacks, but no!
