Using up baby cereal!

I am an expat living somewhere we cant find good old british food.

My 7 month old was having issues with weaning so I ordered 7 boxes of infant cereal from UK which was very silly of me. I was paying a bomb for delivery so thought its best to order loads as all my family members loved the cereals. Turns out baby doesn't like purees and wants finger food! Now I have lots of cereal at home so I am wondering what I can do with them.

Baby is now 8 months old completely refuses me feeding him. I dont want to chuck the cereals out, I cant donate as I asked a few people here and no-one is interested. So I am thinking of putting some occasionally in his formula? Or are their any recipes to transform them into perfect finger food?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Can you mix it up to a fairly thick consistency and let him have a go at feeding himself, spoon or fingers. Very messy but good practice for him!

@NannyR

I have tried that but he just isn't interested. Maybe its the consistency of purees I don't know. He likes having things he can gnaw on

Add fruit into the cereal to make it taste different

My little boy is a gnawer too so we have toast eggs avocados for breakfast a lot but I can get away with baby porridge with some fruit in it once a week ( had to give him a couple of weeks off initially after her had had it to frequently ) the kid likes variety 🤷‍♀️

Give it to him dry as a snack?

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/12/2019 05:22

@PotteringAlong baby cereal is just powder

sunshinekids · 03/12/2019 05:27

There is a recipe for 'porridge fingers' online that would work with baby cereal and is great for baby led weaning.

Otherwise which cereal is it? Could you eat it with some added sweetness?

PotteringAlong · 03/12/2019 07:20

Oh, is it? Bin it then. I can see why he doesn’t want it!

SquigglePigs · 03/12/2019 07:22

Could you use it to make some cereal bar/flapjack style finger foods for him.

dementedpixie · 03/12/2019 07:28

Use it like flour to make pancakes?

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/12/2019 07:41

@PotteringAlong you mix it with hot water to make the cereal 😂 it's like a porridge consistency.

OP do you have any neighbours with babies?

PotteringAlong · 03/12/2019 16:49

You live and learn Grin

Mella91 · 13/12/2019 18:38

I like the idea of using them to make pancakes! Ill give that a go

You can use some of it in place of flour (or some of the flour) in some recipes. I also saw a suggestion today of rolling avocado in it, as it makes it easier for babies to hold.

If you're making porridge fingers, you might want to try a mixture of baby cereal and whole oats, so that the texture is more interesting.
