Sucking hands after spoon

Ive started weaning my DD who is just short of 6months with purees and spoon to start but as soon as the spoon goes in her mouth she shoves her hands in her mouth as well and starts sucking them with every spoon full or if she doesnt suck her hands she will lean forward and suck the high chair table!

Has any one had any experience with this?
Should I leave it and try again in a few weeks?
Shes been like this for over a week now and doesnt seem to be getting it and I dont want to pin her arms down as I know this could cause a feeding aversion

I wouldn't be worried about it. What about putting some of her food on her tray so that she can explore it herself, she can suck the puree off her fingers.

One of mine did this. I just persevered even though they get a bit messy. Does she seem to be enjoying the food?
I did stop them sucking the tray though.

My little boy is 6 months and we are on the weaning journey too. Yes, he does exactly the same. They are just exploring tastes/textures/handling the food. I'm letting my little one get on with it. Yes, he often picks food off the tray and puts it in his mouth but he also creates a huge mess throwing stuff around and sucking on the tray and ramming his hands in to his mouth as well as the spoon - I think it's all part of learning about it all. Luckily we have 2 dogs who love cleaning up after him!
