Farting like a demon since starting solids

As title suggests, six-month-old DD is now a walking windbag (well, crawling) since starting on solids a week ago. It's like having an old dog.

We're doing BLW, a couple of meals a day, mostly on floor/head but I'm content tiny morsels are making their way in as I saw them in her last dirty nappy, which was a week ago too.

No poo since then and she's usually at least a once-a-day girl (vast improvement from "at every feed", which she treated me to until four months). Normal? Do I have to worry about constipation? I haven't seen her straining or any pellet poos, just nothing is emerging, which is unusual for her, and the Bog of Stench fart cushion behaviour. She's at it all through the night too, and sleeps next to me...

Think constipation is not unusual when starting solids. Are you giving her some water? And what kind of things is she eating?

I'm offering water but she just tips it everywhere, unsurprisingly. Thankfully six-month growth spurt means she's barely off the boob so hopefully getting plenty of hydration that way.

She's having a bit of everything from our plates, really: lots of veg (green beans, red pepper, cucumber, carrot, sweet potato, avocado, peas, tomato), fruit (apple – stewed, banana – know this can be a culprit, raspberries, blueberries, plum compote), porridge, toast, pasta, cod, salmon, cheddar, yoghurt, scrambled egg…

Writing all that down makes me think we've overloaded her poor system!

My DS struggled to poop when he started weaning. The HV's advice was to avoid wheat and banana. We did that and he eventually started pooping again - at every feed. We also really pushed the fluids and gave very diluted apple juice to get him moving.

Offer water in a non spill cup like a tommee tippee one where the spout folds down, or the one where they have to break the seal with their mouths which is also non spill.

Thank you, everyone!

She did an epic poo a couple of days after this post. And has been on a multi-poo-a-day schedule ever since, it's delightful! No constipation here after all Grin

We have switched to a sippy cup for water and she's taken to it like a duck to, well.

It's pretty normal and should get better. There is a definite worst of both worlds poo where it's still runny because of the milk but stinks worse because of food

That's exactly where we're at! Like watered-down peanut butter with a whiff of off-yoghurt. Plus she's teething again so we've got some excellent green mucus in the mix too. Having a baby is great.
