6.5 month old off food??

Hi new to this. My daughter is 6.5 months old. I started offering purée veg and fruit at 5.5months. Seemed to start well then this last week she doesn’t want veg or any Savory things. Loves porridge on its own or with some fruit. Loves avocado and banana or yogurt with fruit. She is definitely teething. Also thinking that she’s not liking hot food right now? Is this down to teething? Or fussing eating? I haven’t made to much fuss about it as she’s taken milk fine.. 150/210ml (6/7oz) every 4 hours 3 times during the day and a feed before bed at 6:45. My main worry is that because she’s getting sweeter things like fruit porridge and yogurt that she’s not going to like veg at all :( any advise is welcome Grin

I wouldn’t worry. If you want to encourage veg then butternut squash or sweet potato have a sweeter taste than other veg. If it’s the temperature then you could purée peas and mix them with some yoghurt and mint as a a cool snack. This is a recipe for a chilled soup but you can cut the stock

Thanks. I did think about mixing some veg with porridge and yogurt but wasn't sure this was a thing. I don't really like to give her things that I wouldn't eat myself. Her dad is such a fussy eater and I just don't want her to be like him in that way. Good with him is always a "hassle". I couldn't deal with a bf and baby fussy eating. I have tried sweet potato purée even added some chicken. That didn't go down well. I think I'll just roll with what she wants over the weekend still offering veg at lunch time or even dinner time. I don't want to annoy her to much as they say foods fun till 1.

X

She's only 6.5 months so it's still mostly about tastes. Quantity will be very small for a while yet!

But don't offer the sweet stuff, just keep offering tastes of veg (or some well cooked broccoli or carrot baton for her to touch and try to feed her self)

DS will regularly refuse food for a week when teething, or only want certain textures/temperatures (eg soft cheese, yoghurt). I think you just have to experiment.

And keep trying with the veg, I remember reading that it can take 10-15 tries before they start liking a new food.

It's all about getting used to tastes and textures. Just keep offering lots of variety. All her nutrition should be coming from her milk at this age. My DD wasn't really interested in food until about 8 months old. She's 16 months now and loves food and eats everything I give her. Especially chunks of mature cheddar cheese!

She seems to be back to normal now. We're more just focusing on textures and new food just taken it easy don't want it to be a thing where it's a battle at such a young age. I'm happy if she drinks her milk. Today we tried egg that was a hit!

Why not try her with finger foods/ baby led weaning?

nicT19 · 05/11/2019 19:29

I have tried giving finger food as well as spoon feeding. But she just plays with it and leaves it. I'll still continue to give her finger foods because I think it's good for her to even play with it and explore it. She did eat a baby puff crisp type thing from ellas kitchen which she ate. Just going with the no pressure. I'm happy that she's even having a few baby spoons of veg. Loves porridge avocados banana stewed apple. When I wrote this post however she wasn't having non of it and in all honesty I think it's because I was stress she knew and continued to not need but since I've chilled she's went back to having small try's even trying new textures.
