Weaning - need reassurance or advice!

Hi I’m in week one of weaning and bubs doesn’t seem keen on spoon. I can’t remember if no 1 was same but no2 just cries in high chair. I’m being smiley and reassuring and I know at 6 months the idea is to simply to get him to put anything in any amount in his mouth so two qs

Is there anything I could do to make it super pleasant

Can anyone reassure me this gets better? I have to admit I have a lot resting on getting him eating substantially by 9/10 months as he’s still (breast)feeding every 90mins and I need him to start cutting that as he’s a difficult bottle feeder!

All support and suggestions very very welcome . Health Visiting service has largely been crap so far so not keen to seek HV advice!

try s different spoon
give him his own spoon to play with/use whilst you feed him
let him use his hands
try him on some finger food - pasta pieces, lightly boiled veg etc

My DD didn't really allow a spoon in her mouth until 9 months, and that was in the days of starting weaning at 4 months, and BLW didn't exist. Food wasn't really her thing until she reached the age of about 4. She wouldn't take a bottle either.....

It’s still early days - DS didn’t really show much interest in eating properly until he was 7 months (unless it was sweet fruit purée of course) - what are you feeding your DC?

Thanks. Will keep trying to give him a spoon to play with; currently precipitating an enormous tantrum. Will start finger foods - community nurse advised waiting a few weeks until having 2-3 spoons three times a day!

It’s becoming a bit overwhelming; my husband works in high pressure job so can’t get him to engage because to quote his words he’s not here so it’s not like he can do anything to help.

The boy has so much milk you’d think he’d be keen to eat!

My DD is 6 months and 2 weeks and is the same. Not really eating.

She chews her hands furiously so now I have been dipping her fingers in purees etc for her to lick off herself

You are trying solids before a feed? Perhaps he is just too full of milk to bother about food.

@PixieLumos so far tried parsnips, sweet potato, carrots, pears, apples, peas. He allowed in parsnips, apples and carrots the first time but literally a quarter of weaning spoon twice. He said resounding no to sweet potatoes, pears and second attempt at carrots. He was meh about peas. They went in but came straight out.

We eat together, just been on hols so he was watching big bro eat. He has sat at table in his bouncer while we eat since he was 6ish weeks whenever awake.

Tbh the other one is a food weirdo as he loves broccoli - am sure that the pre-schooler union should have instructed him otherwise...all the nursery parents think we’ve done something special to get him to but no he just likes it...

@Seeline no an hour afterwards...then giving a feed after whatever solids he wants and before his nap. He’s a EAES(if he feels like a nap)
