9 month old won’t drink from a cup!

My 9 month old is really struggling to drink from a cup / beaker. I have so far use one of the nuby 360 cups and she can drink from that but spits the water out! I then tried her on a tommee tippee beaker with a soft spout but she just chews it, and when I tipped it up for her to get some water from she spat it out too.
I’m panicking because it’s boiling hot at the moment and she just won’t drink anything!

Is she breast or bottle fed?

Cant you put water in an empty bottle for her if you're worried. If she still wont drink water try and give an extra feed or try frozen fruits ect

@WafflingDreamer sorry I forgot to mention that I have tried it in a normal bottle but then just point blank refuses it. I don’t know if it’s because she doesn’t like water?

I had the same issue. As long as she’s having enough milk she will be getting fluids that way.

I gave mine water rich foods (like watermelon and cucumber) when he was refusing a cup

But one day he just got it and started drinking

@Willow4987 oh I forgot about watermelon! That’s a pretty good idea actually, I’ll give that a go- thanks! It’s nice to know I’m not the only one whose been through this!

Yeah high water content foods are the way to go :) keep trying her with the cup though, and failing anything else just stick her in the bath - I've yet to meet a baby who can resist drinking the bath water.

My DS will only drink from an open cup like an adult. It made a bit of a mess to start with but he quickly got the hang of if

Mine always like the bottles with straws or the sports top bottles, they still get chewed though....
Also took her a while to start drinking a decent amount of water, i think she might have been around 15 months, until then kept offering formula until 1 then cows milk.
Now she drinks tonnes of water! (not fun now using the potty.....)

My daughter wouldn't drink much water until she was over 12 months. She still doesn't drink a lot of water but does like cold peppermint tea. We tried lots of different cups but only one she will use is a Philips avent one with a soft spout.

I'm having the same issue I've been giving her water in a baby medicine syringe that way i know she is getting water then I keep trying her with the cup/bottle. Hope this helps

With one of my little ones I tried so many bottles and cups. I even tried the bottle/cup next to nursing bra/pretending it was a boob, but no joy! Finally found one that worked, the Babycup one. Really worth a try.

My DS didn’t really ‘get it’ until he was around 12 months, and I had bought loads of different cups/beakers over the previous six months! Eventually I just stuck with the one beaker (the Tommee Tippee first cup) and if he did ever bring it to his mouth I gave him lots of praise which he seemed to enjoy , then he finally realised what he had to do and started drinking from it.

My breastfed 8 month old has taken a while to get used to it but is doing ok with a Tommy Tippee free flow beaker - it's taken a few weeks though. Little mini sipping beakers might work (they're about the size of a shot glass). Otherwise would an ice lolly work? (home made with a bit of blitzed up fruit?).
