How much purée?

We've started to wean my 5.5mo with purées (we will do a mix of BLW and purées) and he will gobble up anything...but now I'm worrying that we could end up over feeding him.

I've been BFing first and then about 3min later will offer the purée. But that means he's taking a full milk feed and then can take quite a lot of purée shortly after. How do you know how much to feed them?

Aren’t babies programmed not to overfeed?

If he eats too much, you’ll know as his weight will suddenly just up the percentiles and be out of proportion to length.

I started with 1 icecube, which quickly went up to 2, then 3, then 6... Then I gave up with icecubes. He'll let you know what his appetite is. My son has always been greedy, but is happily tracking along the 75th percentile for weight and length. If he seems hungry, then feed him!

My 8 month old will gobble everything up and if she eats too much she spews it back up again Confused so don't worry you will know

Agree with pp, let him tell you when he’s done, he won’t overeat. Try and offer a mix of sweet and savoury, don’t just give him fruit - he might be more likely to overeat if it’s sweet stuff.

What purées are you giving? If I gave my DS fruit purée he would probably carry on eating and eating - anything else he would just turn his head when full. But I doubt you could really overfeed a 5 month old - purée will still have a lot less energy than breast milk.
