we have been weaning for a couple of weeks now on just fruit & veg, her ezecma has been soo mucht better for over two months (virtually gone to be honest) should we still be avoiding dairy?

There is research that supports leaving Dairy and Wheat out of their diet until 9m. I think the link was on Kellymom.com. Something to do with the lining of the intestines being better able to cope when a bit more mature.

Skim back through the threads and you will find some good links. I left these out of DDs diet until 9m and found it quite easy. There is plenty you can still feed them to give variety.

I was told to leave til 8 months, but now we have to avoid dairy altogether
Perhaps you could let dd try a tiny bit one day, and watch her reaction over the next couple of days.

i have eczma so avoided all dairy and wheat when weannig my boys until they were over twelve months, ds3 seemed colicky and more sensitive than the others so i waited till he was eighteen months before introducing dairy.

have tried once again explaining this to family who think now dd is being weaned it is a free for all, the winner being whoever can offer/feed her most of the things we ask them not to!
Just need reassurance really as some are convinced delaying introducing dairy & wheat will damage her growth.

The family thing - yep had that too - Birthday cake ffs! Tell them no thank you, you are following the upto date advicce for babies with excema and no Wheat or Dairy. Yes this does include milky buttons and cake. ( all over again now!)

I spoke to a nutritionist before embarking on this less than "normal" weaning route and was reassured that as I was still bfing on demand DD would get all the nutrients she needed. i.e BM = calcium and fats as well as vits. Wheat is just a filler that we tend to eat a lot of in our culture. Rice and Vegetables provide enough carbs and fibre (not that a lo needs much of these until one year).

My main concern was variety but once I got away from carrot puree and discovered some of the other lovely combinations you can make she was fine.
