Advice re solid food/purée etc!

Hi all. My son is 10 months (8 months corrected) and has been having solid food since he was around 6 months (actual). It's becoming more and more stressful - if I give him purée he will eat it, and eat about 1/3 jar/pouch at lunch and 2/3 at dinner but now all he wants is the spoon and bowl and hits my hand etc when trying to feed him. So I thought, right he obviously wants to do it himself, bring out the finger food. Which he will barely touch, he looks at it, played with it and a small amount will just about go in his mouth. He just never seems that fussed by food, he never cries for it or anything but will eat it eventually if it's there. Is there anything else I can do? Or just keep doing what I am with the mixed purée and finger food?
Thanks all, starting to dread food times so any advice is helpful!

Just get two spoons. Load one and put it on the tray for him while you load the other and aim for the mouth. Have some finger foods on the tray too. And don't worry too much about how much goes in. At this age all the milk they have pretty much covers the nutrition needed. Solids are more just a learning thing.

I used to put mush on toast fingers - he could then handle the toast by himself, but would also get whatever the topping was.
