Breastfeeding period!

Sorry wasn't sure where to post this but I'm breastfeeding my 10.5 month DD and have had my period today for the first time - obviously the last time was when I wasn't pregnant.

Anyway I'm a bit panicked because I'm not sure if means my milk is drying up...it doesn't seem to be....

DD is sleeping alit linger at night ow and is eating solids but she's having breastfeeds during the day.

I want to continue breastfeeding until she is at least 18 months.

Anyone been in this situation.

Have but missed having my period!!!!

As soon as DS went to 3 hours (instead of 2) between feeds I got my period.

At 6 sodding weeks I got my period 😂

Sounds to me like it's normal. Sleeping longer at night. Weaning. Yup, you're about right.

Your milk is not drying up though. Very unlikely. Your body will still make milk on a supply and demand basis. I still feed DS and he's 2 now. He has a feed for his nap and a feed for night time sleep.

With dd1 my period returned a week before she turned one. She was feeding regularly throughout the day and night despite being great with solids. Didn't effect my milk supply at all and fed her until 22 months. I was 18 weeks pregnant then. So breastfeeding didn't effect fertility at all either.

With dd2 I ended up in hospital for a week when she was 10 days old and had to pump and dump due to the morphine. My period returned after 6 weeks. She's still breastfeeding at 17 months. Again didn't effect milk supply at all.

Hormones can be funny things so periods can appear at anytime despite frequency of breastfeeding. It won't effect your supply so just continue to feed as you want.

My period came back when ds2 was 10 weeks and he continued to breastfeed exclusively till 6 months, the advice at the time - no idea what it is now, and on till he was two. Pretty similar schedule with DS3.

Don’t worry! I started my period 4 weeks on the dot after giving birth. Wasn’t lochia as they were then regular from there on out. Not especially pleased!

I bf dd with no issues till she was 2.5

Thanks everyone! You've made me feel better...I was worried it was the end of breastfeeding which would bring other issues. I feed to sleep for naps and bedtime. Without it I don't know what I'd do! She only had a bottle of expressed breast milk a few times when she was 3 months...not since.

As others have said, it doesn't really mean anything. Mine came back at 3 months and mine was still fully EBF every 2 hours round the clock. He'd never even had a bottle of expressed milk. I got mine every 28 days like clockwork while breastfeeding and I continued to breastfeed until 15 months and only stopped due to needing to because of health issues of my own. It had no effect on my supply at all.

DD1: period returned at 7months, pregnant again by 12 months, fed until 17months
DD2: returned again at 7 months, fed until 2.5 years.

15 months with my first then fell pregnant with second, milk didn't dry up, tandem fed then second weaned herself at 6 months and first kept going till 4 years old!
